A Crooked Way To Happiness

I moved my hand up his smooth arms waiting impatiently for him to be in focus. Chances are huge that we will be engaged, living and loving each other. His mouth whispering as he appears to be saying “I love you” over and over again. My foot was tangled within his and he picked me up as if I weighed a feather and set me on the couch.
“We should go to the country.” I paused as we were laying there on the comfy ‘don’t leave me’ futon.
“…So that we could beat the traffic.”
“You’re probably right, let’s go.” He muttered grabbing the truck keys and took my hand. “You want me to drive?”
“Might be a good idea, I am kind of tired.” I admitted. I really wanted to drive but I couldn’t or we would get into a terrible crash with my luck. We have to go to the country to set up arrangements of our soon to be home. My dad and my friends are building a fantastic home for me and Jackson. This will be fantastic to see their looks on their faces of us showing up when they told us not to.
“What the heck is this guy doing?” I screamed. A guy was ramming into the bumper of our newer truck.
“Jackson, try to turn off the road onto the side so we can let this idiot through.” He turned off and tried to hand signal him through but the man pulled over himself and got out with a baseball bat. “Lock the doors and let’s get out of here.”
“I’m going to speed and get this jerk off our end. You should phone the cops and let them stop this guy from killing someone.” He said intending I do so by handing me his cell phone.
This guy almost made it so that we went into the ditch but then more than one cop car came from behind and some in front. A cop car almost ran into us but we went onto the fast lane. I could smell the terrible smell of gas and saw a streak of water in front of us. “Is this guy going to kill us?” I yelled as if he was a mile away.
“Don’t know, but whatever this guy is doing to end up killing us or himself.” He called back the same way. I wonder if he changed his mind but Jackson looked frustrated and looked like he tried to get back into the slow lane that the man was in and to turn around without hitting anyone. He managed to do just that.
He kissed me and said “if anything happens to you, I don’t know what I am going to do.” I pressed my head against the truck seat and closed my eyes. I felt that we tipped once but we were driving again. “It’s all over, are you okay?” We exchanged looks and he said “that guy got caught and he said that he just wanted to kill somebody. He had just gotten out of rehab angry and the people responsible should have had an eye on him.”
No kidding. We’ll we are okay and that’s all that matters.” I paused wondering if I should say it. “Do you want to go home or do you want to keep going?”
Hey, it’s just an accident we can keep going.” The cops even let us have a reward for catching this guy and risking our lives. “Hun?”
Yes, what’s wrong?” I asked uncertain of the words going to come out of his mouth.
Will you marry me?” He asked as he slowed down to the side of the road.
Of course I will. I’ve been waiting for you to say that since laying on the most comforting futon!” I had no idea that he’d pop the question. Especially after what just happened with that crazy guy which lost his mind. We kept driving and I could see the smile growing on his face. I have never seen him so happy before. He reached for my hand and pulled me to the driver’s side. I was so comfy and I fell asleep.
